Basic Info
Name:Theodore Nott
Birthdate:1980-11-14
Website:Theo's Logs
Bio
behind blue eyes.

Name: Theodore Bartholomew Nott II

Nicknames: ‘Theo’ is allowed for people who are exceptionally close to him, but anything else, coming from anyone else, will land you hexed. ‘Teddy’ especially.

Age: 19

Birthday: November 14th

Astrological Sign: Scorpio

Gender: Male

Wand: Gorse and unicorn hair, 13 inches

House: Slytherin

Year that character finished Hogwarts: 1998

Patronus: a Lipizzaner Horse

What would he/she see in the Mirror of Erised? Himself and his mother, in the sunlit drawing room of the Nott Manor

What would he/she see if faced with a boggart? Earlier it used to be a deadly curse aimed straight at his heart, but lately the same curse is being directed towards Ginny Weasley, much to his annoyance.

Social Status

Bloodline: Pureblood

Caste (this may be the same as bloodline, but not necessarily): Officially blood traitor, but really a proper pureblood and Death Eater.

Member of the Government/Private Citizen/In Hiding?: Officially in hiding, but really a spy for the Government.

Politics

Affiliations/Memberships: The Death Eaters, Order of the Phoenix as a spy.

For/Against Voldemort?: For Voldemort as long as Voldemort is winning. However, he’s against as far as his fellow Order members are concerned.

For/Against the Order? Depends on who asks, as he’s spying against them. He certainly will be for the Order if they win, though.

Politically Active/Inactive?: Very active. A bit more than he would personally prefer, actually.

Health

Eyesight: Very good.

Hearing: Good.

Left/Right/Ambi: Naturally left handed, but has been forced to write with his right one since early childhood. This would make him ambi, with an awful handwriting regardless of which hand he uses.

Disabilities/Handicaps: None.

Physical Health: Good.

Psychology

IQ: Never did any tests of the sort. He is very intelligent, though.

Extrovert/Introvert: Introvert, but can act extroverted if need arises.

Phobias/Fears: Being abandoned, not being in control of his life, loved ones dying, madness.

Mental Health: Fairly solid, considering his family’s background of mental illness and everything that’s happened to him so far.

Personality

Goals/Dreams: Just surviving would be good enough for now. He would like to be in some sort of safe, shielded position, married to a proper pureblood if possible.

Likes: Classical literature, dramatically bad weather, nice clothes, quality wine, horses, witty people, wizard chess

Dislikes: Tactless people, Muggle culture (pop culture especially)

First Impression: At a first glance Theodore comes off as nice, amiable and well-bred, if a bit reserved or snobby, but very close inspection will prove that his smile is often everything but what it stands for, and that his eyes are mocking rather than laughing.

Family

Parents: Edward Alexander Nott and Amelie Catherine Nott (maiden name Destrier)

Spouse: None

Children: None, and would like to keep it that way, thankyouverymuch.

Siblings: None.

Pets: A Tawny Owl, Coeus (named after one of the Greek titans).

Background

Occupation: Currently none, as he’s supposedly on the run, unless you count being a spy as an occupation. However, he has been promised a nice Ministry position once he’s done spying.

Education: Hogwarts.

Home: The Order safehouse, for now.

Finances: Though he’s got a fairly impressive family Gringotts account waiting for him once he’s done with the Order, he doesn’t have access to it while “on the run”.

History

Personal History:

Edward Nott and Amelie Destrier’s marriage was one of convenience, not love. Amelie was too emotional and sensitive to ever find the gruff, far older Edward an acceptable companion, whereas the pragmatic Edward saw his young wife as ‘weak and useless, if pretty’. While a witch of proper pureblood origin—or perhaps exactly because of this vaguely incestuous ‘proper’ origin—Amelie was what the Muggles would call a manic depressive, even borderline schizo. Edward, too engrossed in his political machinations and Death Eater membership, either didn’t notice or didn’t care until she committed suicide when Theodore was six. He was, in fact, the one to find her, an event that had left him deeply traumatized for the rest of his life. However, Theodore has many fond memories of her, as opposed to his always cold and distant father, and before he met Ginny he fancied her the only person he had ever genuinely loved. Amelie had a particular fondness towards horses and equestrian sports, and Theodore’s favourite memories involve Mother teaching him how to ride one of her treasured Lipizzaner horses. This is where his Patronus form comes from. Amelie Nott’s death was properly covered up, of course. The public story is that she died of Kelpie attack.

Edward didn’t pay more attention to his son after Amelie’s death—in fact, he used it as an excuse to alleviate himself from his family completely, leaving Theodore in the hands of top-notch tutors until he was old enough for Hogwarts. It is understood that he was spoiled rotten when it came to material things but, having been left to his own devices most of the time, he developed into quite a loner. All this helped him to realize that no one would take care of him unless he took care of himself, which he made sure he did from that point onward.

Edward finally took an interest in Theodore when he was about twelve, deciding that it was time to prepare the boy for his role of the Nott heir by teaching him the finer points of strategy, manipulation and the Dark Arts, as well as introducing him to the Death Eaters. Theodore was thrilled to have Edward pay attention to him, so he made sure that he was as good of a student as his sharp wit could enable him, and he had learned to love and appreciate his father in the time they’ve spent together. He still couldn’t help but blame him for Amelie’s death, and there was always an undercurrent of distaste to their relationship, especially when Edward had decided that Theodore was perhaps learning a bit too quickly for his own good and tried to control him. At Hogwarts he was mostly quiet and reserved, charming his way through his education as the ‘shy, responsible, hard-working boy’ and charming his way through the Slytherin politics as the ‘witty, nice one who is always ready to help’. Many failed to notice how much he required for his ‘help’, and even those who didn’t could hardly do much about it by the point they had him figured out. He knew how to turn his flaws—such as being naturally withdrawn—into his assets, and was excellent at making people see only what he wanted them to see.

By the time he had finished Hogwarts, Theodore was already dabbling into suspicious territory, making contacts among the Wizarding underworld and using them to further his own status in the Government, and he had grown a bit overconfident along the way. Eventually he had grown tired of his father limiting his access to the family account, limiting his connections and influence within the Death Eaters, limiting his actions, limiting his everything, and making him feel utterly incompetent and useless along the way. After some of his plans had started crashing down on him, Edward finally found out about the entirety of Theodore’s self-serving machinations (he still held to his old vow of looking after himself and himself only), and threatened to take away even more of his precious freedom away from him. Theodore couldn’t bear other people controlling his life and, in a fit of what he privately calls ‘Mother’s personality showing through’, he killed his father.
The Death Eater’s upper echelon found this a perfect opportunity to get a valuable spy, promising Theodore full discretion about what had happened between him and Edward, plus his old place and all the family’s old influence, in exchange for helping to bring down the Order. Theodore never had a choice, really, as the alternative was being trialed and subjected to the Dementor Kiss for his father’s murder. This way, he was proclaimed a blood traitor for everyone but the Death Eaters in the know, and sent off on his mission. However, after he had spent some time with the Order, he realized that they weren’t as weak as everyone claims them to be. He also became victim of his own scheme to gain their trust when he fell in love with Ginny Weasley, going as far as saving her from the Ministry. Now he’s at an impasse, working for both sides because he’s unsure of which side will win out in the end, and torn between the self-perseverance that had always been his defining trait and the instinct to stay with Ginny and work for her well being.

How has this character changed from the way he/she was depicted in canon?
Not much canon to go by, really.

Academia and Career

Excellent/Good/Mediocre/Poor Student? Excellent, due to his charm as much as his intelligence.

Good at Job? He considers himself quite a failure for falling for Ginny and genuinely liking some Order members, but he’s good otherwise.

Does this character's performance accurately reflect their intelligence? Mostly.

Most talented in: Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Struggles with: Transfiguration and History of Magic.

Favourite class during Hogwarts years: Potions and DADA

Favourite instructor: Professor Snape, if only to watch him taunt unsuspecting Gryffindors.

Other magical oddities/abilities: None.

Appearance

Weight:136lbs

Height: 6’2”

Eyes: dark brown

Hair: dark brown to the point that it looks like black most of the time

Face & Complexion: Has a strong jawline, and his complexion is on the pale side due to him not being much of an outdoorsy person.

Build: Tall and lean.

Defining Marks: Soft, innocent-looking features, including full lips and dimples in his cheeks, which had helped him to cultivate his “nice, shy and soulful” persona. People who don’t know him find it hard to believe that someone so soulful-looking can be capable of any sort of misdeed.

Dress Style: Sharp and neat, and rather classical, too

Possessions always on this person: His wand, and his father’s favourite old pocket watch. He took the watch to remind him of his family and heritage, as well as of the price one must pay for success.

Manner of Speech: He appears amused with mostly everything he sees or hears, and often uses heavy sarcasm to get a point across.

Manner of Movement: Confident and elegant.

Romantic

Marital Status: In a relationship.

Ever Had sex: Yes.

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual.

Turn ons: Wit, intelligence, daring, spirit, long hair

Turn offs: bluntness, stupidity, untidiness, compliance

Past Relationships: nothing awfully deep or special, a few meaningless ones here and there

Morality

Ever been drunk: Yes

Lied to a boyfriend/girlfriend: Yes

Cheated on a boyfriend/girlfriend: No

Gotten into a fight: No

Been a hypocrite in the past: Yes

Opinion on the Dark Arts: They’re like any other sort of magic—they have their purpose and they’re very useful, as long as they aren’t misused or overused.

Opinion of Voldemort: The man is a monster, yes, but Theodore can’t help but admire him for everything he had managed to accomplish. Rising himself to the absolute ruler of Wizarding Britain from scratch certainly is impressive.

Opinion of the Order: They’re very idealist, but they’re not as weak as he used to believe they are. In fact, they can be a force to be reckoned with in their own right, and he had grown to genuinely like some of its members, too.

Scent: He doesn’t exactly pay attention to these, but if he were hard pressed to choose, he’d say cinnamon and mahogany smell fairly nice

Person: Bellatrix Lestrange, she just creeps him out and he hates people who aren't in control of themselves.

Animal: Rats, because they’re vile
